Farnborough scorers: Fernandez (30,52), TBC (75)

Frome scorers: Mapstone (49), Bath (79)

Frome Town were edged out by the odd goal in a 5 game thriller at Farnborough. The game was played in warm sunshine on a lovely pitch, as opposed to the quagmire of last season and enabled both sides to play football to good effect.

The game started somewhat scrappily with Frome on the back foot while they tried to suss out the opposition without really coming under any danger although there was a scare in the 11th minute when Harry Baker went down injured and looked like he would be unable to continue but thankfully he was ok after treatment. Dan Demkiv was effective down the right side, linking up well with Connor Roberts but unable to find the telling cross or shot as Frome cane more into the game. There were half chances for both sides but the hosts took the lead in the 30th minute when the impressive Fernandez gave the Frome goalkeeper no chance with a fierce drive into the corner of the goal.

TJ Davies replaced Kane Simpson at half time and Frome came out with a sense of urgency, forcing a series of corners and half chances straight away. On the 49th minute parity was restored as Marcus Mapstone rose to head home a Connor Roberts cross. The lead only lasted 3 minutes as Fernandez waltzed through the Frome defence to score his second. The game continued at a frantic pace and the hosts scored again in the 75th minute after a lovely spell of play, leaving Frome needing to go all out attack. Ryan Bath pulled one back on 79 minutes to set up a frantic finish but despite giving everything they were unable to find an equaliser.
