FTL SJ CUP 1/4 final - Hutton 2-2(p) Frome

Frome Goal Scorers: Christmas (2)

POM: Ratcliffe

Frome Town Ladies visited Hutton Ladies near Weston Super Mare to try to book a semi final place in the Somerset Junior Cup.

The game started with the young looking Hutton side looking lively in and out of possession for the first 25 minutes but Frome Ladies stood firm with nothing much in the way of chances for the home side.

This all changed on 30 minutes when a speculative shot from the edge of the area left Restorick no chance as the shot fizzed into the roof of the net. Frome Ladies now 1 behind started to press Hutton further up the pitch and on 35 minutes Petteford and Seviour combined well on the right and the resulting cross towards the Hutton goal let the alert Christmas pounce on a Hutton keeper and centre back error to stab home the equaliser.

Frome came out for the second half knowing the first 45 minutes was not anywhere as near as good as their previous performances and with 65 minutes on the watch the Hutton Ladies deservedly scored a carbon copy of the first goal with a good dipping strike from outside the box. The game ticked on with the frustrated Frome Ladies not looking likely to score and only creating half chances as Hutton looked to break away to put the tie to bed, but on 89 minutes Christmas in the right place again capitalised on the home keepers mistake to level the game again.

All square at full time and with no extra time it went straight to penalties to decide the winner. Frome scored their first 2 penalties via Bristow and Isaacson as did Hutton but Christmas missed Frome’s 3rd which put Hutton in the driving seat. Restorick saved Hutton’s 3rd then stepped up to score Frome’s 3rd goal, Restorick then saved Hutton’s 4th effort to turn it right around. Frome had to score the next one to go through to the semi final and up stepped Underhill to comfortably score to put Frome through.

A harsh way for Hutton’s young side to go out but plenty of positives for them to take from the game.

Player of the match was awarded to Ratcliffe for her solid all round performance at the back along side her fellow defenders. Next week Frome Ladies are back in league action welcoming Portishead Reserves to Badgers Hill, come on down, be there
