Frome Town vs. Wimborne Town: Preview and Ticket Info

Updated: Nov 22

Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, ponders another battle against the Magpies.

Last season’s Division One South title adversaries face each other in entirely different circumstances at Badgers Hill on Saturday.

Back in April, over 2,300 crammed into New Cuthbury for that eagerly anticipated showdown and while the 1-1 stalemate meant nothing was decided on the day, both sides eventually ended up with the prize of a return to Step Three.

While Wimborne have been steering a safe mid-table course so far, the Robins find themselves fixed to the foot of the table following Marlow’s victory last week over, irony of ironies, Wimborne.

Danny Greaves’ charges have had a fortnight to reflect upon their last outing, that disappointing single goal defeat here against Winchester, and, perhaps with a ‘nothing to lose’ mindset that their position cannot get any worse, the hand brake could come off and the promise of four battling home performances in October (three draws and that stoppage time defeat to Poole) may finally be delivered.

‘Fat chance against Wimborne,’ some may say, but the Magpies have struggled away from home this term and have in fact picked up fewer points on the road than The Scarlet Runners.

Their up-and-down form is neatly summed up in their three league fixtures so far this month; an impressive 3-0 triumph over Taunton sandwiched between defeats against the other two promoted sides, Chertsey and Marlow, and all Frome fans will be rooting for a November hat-trick.

Southern League encounters between the Robins and the Magpies

Season Competition Home Away

2010-11              Div. One S & W          W 3 – 1    W 3 - 0

2018-19             Premier South             W 1 – 0     L 2 – 3

2022-23              Div. One South            W 3 – 0      W 4 – 1

2023-24              Div. One South           D  2 – 2    D  1 – 1

Despite the dismal home record, Badgers Hill crowds have held up reasonably well with the season’s average for league encounters bang on the 500 mark. The team will take great heart from a similar figure on Saturday but the number everyone in the red corner will be hoping for is simply scoring one more than the visitors.

The Frome Town vs. Wimborne Town match looks like an exciting event for fans of local football. Matches like these always bring a great sense of community and energy to the stadium. By the way, organizations like Vettix are great for veterans and service members who want to enjoy events like this. Local matches often have a unique charm that bigger leagues can’t match, making them a great experience for families and friends. It’s always fun to support local teams and enjoy the atmosphere of live sports.

Another excellent review from the ever knowledgeable Jupster. I would just add that in their last four league games they've lost to both Marlow and Plymouth Parkway from the drop zone. So, they're on a very unwanted hattrick. Just like us they've taken some right old batterings too - - 6-0 @ Merthyr, 4-0 @Totten and 0-4 at home to Walton & Hersham.

Whilst our gate average is down by just eleven Dodgers, Wimborne's is slightly more costly, down from 647 to 584. The big difference of course is that The Magpies have secured six three pointers thus far!

Last season Wimborne were the best side to play at 'The Hill' in a thrilling 2-2 draw but they certainly looked…
