Frome Town vs. Chertsey Town: Preview and Ticket Info

Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, weighs up a make-or-break clash with the Curfews.

With the dust having barely settled on cup final disappointment, the Scarlet Runners have to pick themselves up for what is a ‘must win’ encounter against fellow strugglers Chertsey Town who will be making their first-ever visit to Badgers Hill.

And ‘must win’ also means ‘must score’ as a third straight 1-0 loss extends a barren run of not having found the net to just over five-and-a half hours of football.

When Frome returned victorious from Basingstoke a fortnight ago, they moved level on points with the Curfews who, on the same day, suffered a third defeat in a row. A win and a draw since then have given them a little breathing space which the chasing pack will be desperate to wipe out.

For a side just four points above the drop zone, Chertsey themselves certainly know the way to goal, scoring more than any other team outside the top six with sharp-shooter Jack Mazzone finding the target over twenty times in the league alone.

On the minus side of the ledger, however, they have kept just one clean sheet in the league since the middle of November and only Marlow have lost more matches and conceded more so some may conclude, therefore, that we could well be in for a more open and entertaining contest rather than the cagey, attritional affairs of late.

The reverse fixture at Alwyns Lane back in August was a bright and breezy affair and could easily have delivered more goals than the eventual 1-1 scoreline.

A Badgers Hill turnout last week of well over 600 was a fine effort from all concerned and the team can only benefit from similar backing against opposition who, like themselves, are battling to avoid a swift return to Step Four having won promotion last term.

This is a real six-pointer and for the Robins, the biggest game of the season so far. Time to deliver.
