Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, looks ahead to our return to league action.
Buoyed by a couple of decent recent performances, the Robins now embark upon a hectic
period of fixtures beginning on Saturday with a home clash against unbeaten Basingstoke
Town.
Like Frome, the Dragons or the 'Stoke (take your pick!) bowed out of the FA Trophy last
weekend at the first hurdle, losing 1-0 at Taunton, but they remain the only unbeaten side in
Premier Division South, handily-placed in fifth with a game or two in hand.

They began the current campaign with three straight wins but have drawn four of the last five
as they bid to improve upon a final position of twelfth last term.
Founder members of National League South in 2004, they remained at Step Two until
relegation in 2016 when they became regular opponents for a while in the Southern Premier
from which both clubs were demoted at the end of the 2018-19 season.
After Covid, a sideways move took them into Isthmian League South Central which they won
in 2023 and promotion back to where they are now.
Frome fans will remember their last visit to Badgers Hill, just under five years ago, with great
fondness for a hat-trick from Dan Cottle and a Rex Mannings brace contributed to an 8-0
annihilation as the Robins went toe-to-toe with Thatcham for the Division One South title
before you-know-what got in the way.
Past Southern League meetings:
Season Division Home Away
2016-17 Prem D 1 – 1 W 3 – 1
2017-18 Prem W 1 – 0 W 3 – 1
2018-19 Prem South L 1 – 4 L 1 – 4
2019-20 Div One South W 8 – 0 Covid
2020-21 Div One South Covid Covid
Saturday’s encounter will be a milestone one for Kyle Phillips who, all being well, will make
his 200th appearance between the posts for the club, the first keeper to do so since Darren
Chitty roughly a decade ago.
This will be a tough contest for Danny Greaves’ charges but, after the encouragement
gleaned from their last two outings against Hungerford and Havant, it is a fixture which can
be faced with a degree of optimism.
