Frome Town Ladies welcomed Bishops Lydeard Reserves to Badgers Hill knowing another 3 points would keep them at the top of the table for another week and their unbeaten record intact. Their game was preceded with a minutes applause by all the players, management and the supporters alike for former Frome Town Ladies player and manager Dawn Prior who sadly lost her battle with cancer.
With a great send off from the club for a great person the game began with Bishops Lydeard on the front foot for 10 minutes but Frome Ladies stood firm and defended well to keep Lydeard from making any serious threat on the Frome goal.
Frome Ladies eased themselves into the game and going forward looked more potent than their visitors with Petteford, Seviour and Christmas always pressing the Lydeard back four. 14 minutes gone and Petteford’s tricky footwork in the box drew 2 Lydeard defenders in and she slipped a good pass to Christmas who’s shot was blocked by the away keeper only to fall to Seviour to confidently strike home the loose ball.
Confidence now sky high Frome began to press Lydeard back with the midfield looking to put the lively Christmas through on goal at every opportunity and on 16 minutes this time Seviour and Christmas honed in on a through ball to see a mix up with the centre half and keeper leaving Christmas to slot home.
By no means were Lydeard dead and buried with them looking like they had a goal or 2 in them so the midfield and defence had to be on their game with plenty of the 1st half remaining. A good battle between 2 good sides saw us through to half time with no further goals.
Again the second half started with Lydeard coming out strongly at Frome testing their defensive duties but Frome stood firm and on 55 minutes at the other end the ball popped up on the edge of the area for Isaacson to strongly volley home Frome’s 3rd of the day. Frome now fully in the driving seat began to press for a 4th with plenty of movement up front but had to wait until the 82nd minute to see Underhill twist and turn her marker on the edge of the box and unleash an unstoppable low strike into the bottom corner. Four good goals from four different players earned Frome all three points against a good Lydeard side.
The player of the match was again a close affair with the whole team working well, although a close second went to Ratcliffe for her all round performance Restorick took it for her great handling, kicking and impressive ball distribution throughout.
Next week the Ladies travel to Ilminster Town Reserves looking to keep up their unbeaten run.
