Glorious sunshine greeted both teams for this early season encounter between 2 clubs both hoping to be challenging for promotion come the end of the season.
Totton dominated the early possession without troubling the Frome defence. The first opportunity for the hosts came on 12 minutes, great chance for Adams on penalty spot but shot was straight at the goalkeeper. On 25 Oyebamiji broke free for Totton but Phillips made a superb save low to his left and the resulting corner was cleared.
Luke Hopper replaced the injured Jon Davies on 33 minutes. On 38 a quick break saw a chance for Ben Starr but his effort was saved by the goalkeeper, closely followed by another superb save by Phillips at the other end to keep the game scoreless.
On 45 Humphries was fouled on edge of area but Riggs free kick went straight into the goalkeeper’s arms. Another Rigg free kick early in the second half saw Teale’s goal bound header saved. A succession of Frome corners were won half way through the second half but were unable to capitalise as the game became somewhat scrappy.
On 75 minutes a Totton free kick on the edge of the area was driven goal-wards but Phillips easily claimed it. A Hopper effort was well saved by the goalkeeper and the rebound high over the bar from Humphries.
In the 80th a superb cross from the right was headed towards goal and once more Kyle Phillips was there to make another great save and seconds after another Totton attack was cleared off the line as Frome came under pressure.
A bizarre incident on 88 minutes saw Totton take the lead when they received possession after the referee had blocked a Rigg run accidentally and Totton broke quickly with a whipped cross headed home by Rendell.
Frome had a golden opportunity to equalise when Hopper broke clear and squared the ball to Brace who was unable to finish and Totton played out the last couple of minutes to secure the 3 points.
