Goals: Underhill, McGregor
POM: Restorick
Frome travelled to Swindon supermarine women to try and build on their winning start to the season. Frome were punished for their lacklustre start 5 minutes in, as the lively Swindon midfield and winger got in behind the Frome defence to set up Swindon’s striker inside the box to finish neatly leaving Restorick no chance.
With Frome still not at full speed the next 15 mins of the game surprisingly went from end to end with Isaacson finding plenty of room on the left but couldn’t find a goal worthy finish. The whole of Frome’s midfield battled hard with McGregor forcing a good save from the home keeper but Swindon seemed hungrier with more cutting edge going forward and Restorick was called upon again on 30 mins to make a smart smuthering save one on one with Swindon’s forward. Frome’s still not looking at their best tried to play out from the back but Swindon sniffed another chance as Restorick’s loose pass out got intercepted and despatched to make it 2 nil to the hosts.
Things went from bad to worse on 40 mins as Swindon’s dangerously fast left winger broke free again and tucked the ball away nicely into the bottom corner although Restorick got a hand to it.
Frome emerged for the 2nd half with manager Justin’s half time talk ringing in their ears and started with more energy and 10 minutes in were awarded a penalty after the quick legs of Christmas were taken by a Swindon defender. Up stepped Underhill to confidently finish after sending the home keeper the wrong way. Game on now and Frome kept up their high tempo pressure in Swindon’s half and were rewarded with a 2nd goal on 70 minutes this time McGregor with her back to goal reacting to a knockdown and hooked the ball expertly over the keeper into Swindon’s goal. The ref popped out his yellow card on 80 mins after some dubious offside decisions were brought to his attention by the Frome manager!!
Although Swindon still looked a threat on the break Frome still looked more likely to get an equaliser and Underhill came the closest with a fine free kick on 85 mins drawing a great save from the home keeper low to her right, and spurned a good chance at the death dragging her shot wide of the target. A poor 1st half from Frome but much improved 2nd and yes you’ve all heard it before but definitely a game of 2 halves!
Frome’s keeper Restorick picked up supporters player of the match for some fine saves especially in the 1st half to keep it to 3. Next week the women visit Penmill ladies in the Somerset Junior Cup.
