Frome Town women travelled to Sherborne town ladies in their last game before the Christmas break looking to bounce back from the previous weekend’s league defeat. The pitch looked in great condition bearing in mind the resent days monsoon like weather but a stiff wind coming from the club house end looked certain to make this a tough game to defend from the bottom end. Frome kicked off with the wind in their faces and found it difficult to get into the oppositions half who passed the ball around comfortably using the full width of the pitch and on 5 minutes took the lead with a header from a corner swung into the back post wind assisted.
On 15 minutes Frome were caught again as the ball fell to their number 8 just outside the area who shot well beating Restorick to her left. Sherborne looked in full control of the game playing some nice stuff all over the park and went 3 up after 30 minutes . Frome battled on and Mist hit the bar with their best chance of the game after good hold up play from Petteford on 35 minutes only to see Sherborne run through 5 minutes later to add a 4th before the break.
Frome came out for the 2nd half knowing the wind would now be in their favour and started at pace causing Sherborne problems with Mist powering through the middle on 55 minutes forcing a fine save from the home keeper. The industrious Christmas up front kept harrying and chasing down the Sherborne defence rushing them into mistakes and Frome’s midfielders profited pinching the ball back but couldn’t get into range to test the home keeper.
The game ended with Frome keeping a 2nd half clean sheet but again couldn’t force possession into goal scoring chances.
The supporters player of the game was close with Christmas putting in a great shift in both halves but Mist grabbed it with her work rate and on another day could have scored two. The ladies now have a well earned rest and look to get back to winning ways in the new year.
Merry Christmas all.
