The Robins secure a Somerset Junior Cup semi-final spot, following a 5-4 victory over Purnell Sports on penalties.

Both teams looked a little edgy in the first 5 minutes but Frome found their forwards Christmas and Petteford working an opportunity on 10 mins with Petteford shooting a touch too close to the visitors keeper.

With 15 minutes played, Christmas found her pace too much for the last 2 defenders to live with and cut back onto her flavoured right foot only to be denied by a brave save at her feet.

Frome kept plugging away for the 1st half but couldn’t quite execute the final through ball with the right pace or accuracy.

The visitors only real threat on goal came on the 1/2 hour mark with a unexpected shot/cross from 35 yards out hitting Restorick’s crossbar after looking as if it was sailing way over.

The 2nd half saw the visitors come out with a real sense they could get a result from the fixture pressurising Frome in their own half and on 55 minutes drew a fine close range reaction save from Restorick low to her left to keep her team on level terms.

Purnell’s to their credit kept pressing Frome restricting them any clear cut chances only the odd chase for Christmas to show her electric pace in behind Purnells back line but again the final ball in not really up to scratch.

Mist and Harris showed signs they may force their way through the middle to fire the home side in front but the visitors stood firm. So 90 minutes done and all square it went straight to penalties.

Purnells 1st up scored their 1st 3 as did Frome via Underhill,Bristow and Isaacson but missed their 4th leaving McGregor to score and give Frome the advantage, Purnells converted their last penalty to level it up 4 all, leaving Restorick to strike the ball home confidently to take Frome into the semi final.

The supporters player of the match was awarded to Betty Restorick for some important saves throughout the 90 mins and a good display in the penalty shoot out, unlucky not to save a couple but kept her head with the final kick of the game. Well done all involved today through to the next round.

Next week the women travel to Penmill Ladies near Yeovil looking to build on their impressive start to the league campaign.
