Women: Frome 3-1 Penn Mill

Updated: Sep 30, 2019

Goals: Christer, Perkins, Underhill

POM: Ratcliffe

Penn Mill Ladies were welcomed by Frome Town Women in their 3rd league game of the season with Frome looking to continue their impressive start and take all the points to cement top spot.

Unlike their previous outing, Frome started with pace and pressure high up the pitch and it paid off as 5 minutes in Christer chased down a loose back pass to the visiting keeper and blocked her attempted clearance which spooned up and into the unguarded net. Frome continued to attack Pen Mill at will and on 15 minutes forced a corner which McGregor whipped in at pace and found the head of the prolific Perkins who notched her 2nd in as many games. Frome saw out the rest of the half with the whole team putting in a shift to keep Penmill at bay.

The 2nd half started with Penmill trying to use the ball over the top for their strikers to run onto but Frome’s defence mopped up any advances and on 55 minutes the lightning Edwards carried the ball into Penn Mills half and fed Petteford who in turn tee’d up McGregor to power into the box but shot fractionally wide of the target.

Penn Mill on 60 minutes shocked Frome pulling one back against the run of play with a well taken shot leaving Restorick no chance in goal but the hard working Frome midfield 8 minutes later put Frome’s two goal cushion back in place with the industrious Underhill blasting in an unstoppable strike from outside the box. The last 20 minutes saw both teams push for further goals but both defences had the upper hand leaving Frome winning 3-1.

Thanks go out to Kevin Snelgrove for kindly sponsoring the match with the player of the game going to Charley Ratcliffe for her energy and faultless display at right back.
