REPORT: Frome Town 1-1 AFC Totton

Kane Simpson’s seventh minute strike helped The Robins secure a 1-1 Southern League draw against AFC Totton at The Robins’ Nest, in what will be their final game before a second lockdown period.

The Robins took the lead early on as Simpson scored a close-range header, his ninth league goal of the season.

Some good build up play from The Robins lead to a chance for Alex Monks but his shot from outside the area is well saved by the Totton keeper.

Two chances for The Robins within a minute, as both Jon Davies and Kane Simpson test the visiting keeper.

The Robins had a reprieve on the 27th minute mark as the referee chalked off Brett Williams goal, as it was adjudged to be offside.

The hosts nearly got a second through Rex Mannings as he headed Jack Witcombe's cross towards goal, but his effort was well saved by The Stags number one.

An athletic save from Max Evans prevented The Stags from getting a goal back, as he was able to palm the ball away with a couple of minutes left before the break.

The Stags pulled a goal back through Hisham Kasimu, as he slid the ball home from close range on 64th minutes.

The Hampshire side nearly took all three points back down to The South Coast as a long-range strike cannoned off the crossbar, but they were unable to follow up on the chance.

The final whistle blew giving the two sides a point each and proceedings to shuddering halt at The Robins’ Nest for the forthcoming month as Government sanctioned lockdown restrictions come into force on Thursday.
