The Robins are top of the Southern League Division One South table as a Will Hailston's third league goal of the season and a late own-goal secured a 2-1 win over Mangotsfield United at Badgers Hill!
Manager Danny Greaves made one change to The Robins side which completed a convincing Bank Holiday 4-1 win at Cinderford Town on Monday, with club captain Sam Teale coming in for Alex Hallett.
The Robins nearly took the lead within the opening moments at Badgers Hill as Will Hailston pounced on a mistake from ‘keeper Marko Radovanovic, but the forward was brought down by opposition stopper with the goal gaping.
A defensive/goalkeeping error nearly led to Mangotsfield opening the scoring as Robins’ keeper Rob Brown’s clearance deflected off on-rushing forward Dan Demkiv but the ball went wide of the post.
Deadlock was broken after 34 minutes as Hailston got his goal, his fourth of the season in all competition, as the Mangos defence buckled after consecutive attacking phases in and around their area.
The Mangos would peg the hosts back just before half-time, as Tom Hillman scored on the 45th minute mark.
Neither side were able to get a stranglehold in the second half, making it an end-to-end affair. The visitor brought on lethal forward Sacha Tong, who already has four league goals to his name this season, in an effort to complete the turnaround.
It looked like this game was heading to a draw until Jon Davies’ cross was turned into the net by a Mangotsfield defender with seconds left on the clock.
Pandemonium ensued at Badgers Hill as The Robins 100% League record continued as they secured top spot.
THE ROBINS XI: Brown, Cooper, O'Loughlin, Teale, Mapstone, Peck (Monks 84'), Davies, Hobbs, Hailston (Bath 89'), Smith (Mannings 75'), Cottle.
NOT USED: Hallett, Lenihan.
Another win and 3 points. It should have been 3.1 if the referee had given Jono what I would say was a blatant penalty.
