In an eventful match Frome Town progressed into the next round of the league cup against higher league opposition in Dorchester Town. Given Frome's progress in the league and Dorchester currently struggling near the bottom of the league, both managers rang the changes. The match started brightly with both sides looking for openings.
However it was Simpson that had the first real chance of the match forcing the keeper into a comfortable save.
The opening goal cam on the 26th minute, as Joe O’Loughlin took advantage of defensively slip to beat the keeper. Simpson was again at the heart of the action, playing a great ball to set Cottle away but he can’t take advantage. Cottle was brought down in the area but to his dismay nothing was given.
Cottle had a second effort that was deflected by defender, it looped up onto the crossbar and fell back to Hallett, who misses a glorious chance to double the lead
The second half saw Simpson still causing Dorchester problems, as he worked hard to create himself a chance but shot just wide. Later Monks set Simpson on his way, as Kane beats the last defender but shot is easy taken by the goalkeeper.
The biggest moment came from Cottle intercepting a poor pass from the keeper pass, but his cross into the middle was well claimed by the keep to recover his mistake.
As the game looked to be closing out in the freezing cold. A penalty was awarded to Dorchester much to the surprise of the home crowd. It was promptly dispatched to level the match 1-1 after 88 minutes.
Into added time, there was a final chance as Mannings found himself some space but shot just wide. The ref bought the match to a end and it was penalties ahead.
