We left it late in the second half to stay top of the league for another weekend. Rex Mannings scored his 5 goal in 4 games in the 85 minute after latching onto a fine through ball to place the ball calmly under the keeper from the edge of the area. Mannings impressive form was not unnoticed as the crowd sang his name at the end to show their appreciation.

The match had been looking like the weather was going to be the only winner of the day, as both teams matched each other in terms of possession and territory. Chances in the first half were few and far between. Simpson had a couple of situations to test the Sholing keeper but the biggest chance fell to Simpson after Mannings had rounded the keeper and pulled it back. Simpson’s smart shot was blocked off the line by the defenders rushing back. Brown at the other end was also called into action to make an excellent save to keep the scores level.

Half time, the rain and cold didn’t seem to be dampening the fans spirits as they seemed to almost sense that we would get at least one proper opportunity to clinch the match. Especially with the knowledge that Sholing at still yet to score away this season. The chances started to mount up in the second half, but the pressure only slowly built up. The introduction of Davies and Monks on the hour, started the change of the momentum in Frome’s favour. Chances fell to Simpson, Mannings and finally Hobbs who pulled his shot just wide of the goal. Davies was keen to mark his return and a cheeky effort lobbed over the goalkeeper clipped the bar and went over, when a proportion of the fans thought it had gone in.

Then with 5 minutes to go Mannings stepped up to get the winner, the fight was knocked out of the visitors and Frome played out until the final whistle. Where the celebrations began. Another three points on the board and that makes it 6 wins and 1 draw in the last 7 outings. REACTION:
