In the second of three special features ahead of Saturday afternoon's hotly-anticipated cup clash, Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, offers up his introduction to our opponent!
Ramsgate play in the Isthmian League South East Division (Step 4, same as us) and because of their cup success, have played just three league games so far this term (two wins, one loss).
The Rams finished runners-up in the same Division last season, missing out on promotion with a play-off semi final defeat. Their FA Cup run has included the scalps of higher-league opponents Chatham Town (5-1 away) and Cray Wanderers (2-2 away and 3-2 AET home ).
Our hosts reached the First Round Proper as recently as 2005, going down 2-0 at Nuneaton Borough and also in 1955 when Watford triumphed 5-3 at Vicarage Road.
Formerly known as Ramsgate Athletic, the Kent side were a Southern League outfit from 1959-76, spending one season in the Premier Division, while, from 2006-09, they competed at Isthmian Premier level (Step 3), once making the play-offs for a place in National League South.
Ramsgate have been scoring goals for fun this season, with 30 in their opening ten fixtures (and never less than two in any one game) but in that run, have kept just two clean sheets.
All to play for in the Third Qualifying Round then!
