Match Report: Poole Town Ladies 6 Frome Town Women 2

Frome Town Women battled hard from the first to last minute in a 6-2 defeat against a top of the league Poole Town Ladies team.

Frome, with six squad players missing through injury and illness, travelled to face a Poole side on a cold winter’s day at the Dorset FA County Ground in the South West Regional Women’s League.

Frome Town fought and played hard with all 11 starters and 2 subs battling for every ball and restricting efforts on goal. Despite their grit and determination, Frome went 3 0 down at the break, with Poole showing great team coordination and impressive speed.

In the 2nd half Frome kicked it up a gear and showed some impressive football. Poole however scored with an excellent goal (4-0) and Frome won a free kick in dangerous position with Wyatt getting fouled on edge of box. Underhill smashed in a comprehensive free kick into the bottom corner of the net to give Frome a well-deserved consolation goal.

Frome continued defending in numbers with excellent recoveries from the Robins. After Poole get their sixth, Frome win a corner which Wyatt takes to Underhill who flicks it on to Restorick who chests the ball down, takes a touch and lobs it past the keeper to make scoreline 6 - 2 to Poole.

Outstanding performances from both Underhill and Edwards and Whisstock shows growth every game. Wyatt had a impressive game, used her strength well and was deservedly Managers Player of the Match.

Frome Town Women should be very proud of their performance today as it showed a real team performance where everyone gave there all and whilst the score didn’t go our way, we should be very proud.

Keira-Leigh Underhill Frome Town Women Captain said “It was a tough game today but their are lots of positives to takeaway. Fair play to Poole, they created and took their chances. We scored two great goals in the second half and were a lot more competitive. We are heading into the Christmas break with a positive mindset and lots to work on. We will come back in the new year stronger ready to take on the league”.

Manager Ben Bolland said “We will take a lot of positives from that game, against an excellent Poole side. Effort and commitment from the players was absolute today and we had some great moments and strong performances in a tough game. Lots to be proud of and plenty to take into 2024 , where we still have half our season to play for”
