The Robins have reached the Semi-Finals of the Somerset Premier Cup after overcoming Western League side Shepton Mallet on penalties.
A match that would end with a bang started rather tamely, as neither side were able to get a stranglehold on the play in the first 20 minutes at The Playing Fields.
However, the two division difference between The Robins and Shepton Mallet was starting to show as the visitors started gaining more possession and territory.
A trio of shots from Ryan Bath, Ollie Knowles and Tom Mehew would all go wide of the goal-frame, and The Robins rued their missed chances as they headed into half-time.
Danny Greaves’ side had to defend resolutely as The Mallet came back fighting in the second half, as the hosts had the majority of the possession.
The visitors would take the lead on 62 minutes as Billy Fletcher turned the ball home to give The Robins the advantage against the run of play.
The tide then turned in favour of the away side, the best chance would fall to Bath but he turned TJ Davis’ cross over the bar.
The match petered out slightly as we headed into what everyone thought would be the final moments of this cup tie, youngster Ben Crossman would even come on to make his Robins debut.
The Playing Fields would be sent into bedlam when Shepton Mallet were awarded a penalty in the 89th minute, which Tyson Pollard duly dispatched.
The tie ended tied in regular time so the two teams headed for a penalty shootout, after nine tense penalties it took a save from Carl Crabtree to send The Robins through to the next round of the Somerset Premier Cup.
