LADIES: Penmill 1-11 Frome Town

Frome Town Ladies took to the road this week to take on Penmill Reserves with Justin and Tim eager for them to keep up their great form.

The Robins started strongly, as Didymus helped herself to the opener on barely 4 minutes after nice interplay between the two forwards who released Isaacson on the left to deliver a neat cross from the byline.

The next 20 minutes on the congested narrow pitch went mostly our way with plenty of chances falling to Frome Ladies but the home keeper was determined to keep Penmill in the game with some fine saves.

It took until the half hour mark for Petteford to grab Frome’s 2nd as she latched onto a superb through ball and calmly slotted home into the bottom corner. Penmill must have thought they had weathered Frome’s first half storm but right on 45 minutes Isaacson on the left wing broke through and left the keeper no chance with a fine finish.

Frome started the second half now with the stiff breeze behind them and began were they left off pressurising the Penmill team high up the pitch. On 52 minutes Underhill’s tireless forward work rewarded Didymus a chance which she gladly stuck away to take Frome’s tally to 4.

Frome’s 5th only took another 5 minutes to come as a corner swung into the Penmill box was met on the volley by centre half Perkins for her first of the season.

On 66 minutes Penmill struck by this time a consultation goal with a fine free kick which dipped and found its way into the top corner leaving Restorick no chance. This goal only seem to put Frome into a more determined mood going forward and Underhill who deserved a goal had her effort saved well by the keeper only for Petteford to be in the right place to poach her second of the game.

Frome’s forwards now terrorising the Penmill back 4 on every attack played in Isaacson to calmly pass the ball into the net past the outrushing keeper. On 80 minutes Bristow joined in with the fun with a nice controlled finish and doubled her tally 5 minutes later with another to take Frome to an impressive 9 for the day!

With Frome now camped in Penmill’s final third Petteford grabbed her hatrick with a nice finish from another Frome corner and there was still just time for Seviour to smash home a well deserved goal right on 90 minutes.

All in all a very good performance from the whole Frome team with 6 different names on the score sheet, a brace for Bristow and Isaacson, 1 each for Perkin’s and seviour, a Didymus double and a Petteford hatrick.

Well done all including Harris who took a few in the face for the cause and Edwards for player of the match for her 5 assists and tireless work.

Frome Town Ladies return to Badgers Hill on Sunday (20th January), as they take on Ash Rangers. Kick off: 2pm.
