LADIES: Frome Town 2-1 Purnell Sports

The Robins secured their place in the Somerset Junior Cup final, as goals from Mae Bristow and Keira-Leigh Underhill were enough to overcome Purnell Sports.

Both teams lined up for photos with rainbow balls before the game in support of Football v Homophobia with the Frome under-10's girls assisting as mascots for the game.

The first 10 minutes started with both teams probing and checking for possible roots to the opposing goals but both teams cancelled each other out with no real threat to either keeper.

The game came alive right on 15 mins when a cross ball from Petteford sat up nicely for Bristow to instinctively shoot from the edge of the area and see her fine effort cross the line via the underside of the crossbar.

Restorick in goal for the home side had to be on her game shortly after and made her 1st save of the game after a rare mix up at the back to keep Purnell’s at bay.

It wasn’t long before Purnell’s were at Frome’s goal again clipping the cross bar with a shot come cross from the left hand side and within minutes a cross from a free kick was met by Hemmings to head home Purnell’s equaliser.

With 10 mins to half time both teams pushed hard and Underhill found herself in on goal only for the away keeper to rush out to smother her effort on goal.

With all to play for in the 2nd half both teams came out competing all over the pitch and Bristow seemed to be in on goal only to be brought down by the Purnell’s centre back who then sighed a breath of relief as the ref only pulled out a yellow card.

Frome continued to push to get back in front with the game in the balance and Underhill got in behind the Purnell’s defence on 75 mins and delightfully lifted the ball into the unguarded net as the Purnell’s keeper rushed out to put Frome back in the driving seat.

The Robins stuck to their task in a physical battle to the end with Purnell’s being reduced to 10 with five minutes remaining.

The whole Frome team put in a great effort throughout the game all over the pitch and game sponsor Kevin Snelgrove gave the player of the match to Bristow for her magic finish and great tenacity in midfield. A brilliant performance from the ladies and onto the final!
