#JD200

Our talismanic number seven #JD7 reached the milestone of 200 club appearances in the recent Southern League encounter at Bashley in November. With Monday being our first home game since this achievement, we are hoping that supporters will join us to show their appreciation to Jon Davies on Monday vs Larkhall.

Currently in his second spell at Badgers Hill, Jono was initially signed by Nick Bunyard in October 2015 from Bath City (Salisbury, Totton, Poole and Paulton number among his previous clubs) and became an instant fan favourite with a dream debut in the last-gasp 2-1 victory over Bedworth United, scoring both goals, including a 94th minute winner with a diving header.

The following season, he was part of a Frome side which achieved their highest ever placing in the Southern League Premier Division, finishing a creditable ninth after flirting with a play-off spot for a good chunk of the campaign.

2017-18 brought him the accolade of top scorer with 16 goals but the resignation of boss Josh Jeffries led to him moving to Melksham for a season in which The Robins suffered relegation.

Danny Greaves made the popular move of re-signing him in the summer of 2019 stating, “This is a very important signing for the club. It was clear last season that we needed to strengthen our attacking options, as our ‘goals for’ column was the worst in the league. He turned down offers from clubs in the two leagues above us, so this is a real coup and shows our ambition as a club.”

Jonno added, “After meeting with Danny and hearing his ambitions for next season, I’m looking forward to coming back. I thoroughly enjoyed my previous spell at Frome and I can’t wait to get started again.”

The goals flowed as The Robins sought an instant return to the Premier Division, 21 in 28 games with the highlight being back-to-back hat-tricks against Totton and title rivals Thatcham in the same week, but covid ended what could have been a fabulous run-in.

Yet another hat-trick, his fifth for the club, in the final league fixture of last season at Lymington made JD top scorer once more (along with the award of supporters’ player of the year) and his total of 83 goals is an incredible feat for one who is not an out and out striker.

Up front or pulling the strings from midfield, his most effective position has prompted much debate amongst the Frome faithful, but one thing is for sure, wherever he plays, his vision, skill and ability to make things happen gives everyone a lift.
