Hungerford Town vs. Frome Town: Preview and Ticket Info

Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, ponders our midweek trip to the home counties!

Frome Town get a quick opportunity to end an unwanted run of four straight defeats when

they travel on Tuesday evening to Bulpit Lane, home of Hungerford Town.

Going into last weekend, both sides had the identical record of having lost FIVE of their

opening SEVEN league fixtures but experienced vastly contrasting fortunes with the

Crusaders burying Plymouth Parkway under a goal avalanche to the tune of 9-3, which

elevated them up to thirteenth place.

Frome and Hungerford have met in the Southern League before but not since 2016 when

the Berkshire-based outfit won promotion to National League South. This capped an

impressive rise through the ranks of the pyramid for just seven years previously, they had been

competing at Hellenic League level.

A best finish of sixth was achieved in their seven seasons at Step Two before relegation in

2023 and a final position of eighth last term.

Past Southern League encounters with Hungerford:

Season Division Home Away

2009-10 Div. One S&W W 2-1 D 0-0

2010-11 Div. One S&W L 0-1 W 1-0

2013-14 Prem L 0-2 D 0-0

2014-15 Prem W 1-0 D 1-1

2015-16 Prem L 0-2 L 0-4

Spare a thought for young debutant keeper Isaac Finch who couldn’t do much about the five

that went past him on Saturday. Custodian Colin Paczoski had a harrowing debut in the mid-

80s, conceding EIGHT against Bristol Manor Farm, but in his very next game, saved a

penalty and kept a clean sheet at Torrington. History sometimes has a curious habit of

repeating itself… we hope!

Well said Zeb - I couldn't agree more about our young keeper Isaac. Having seen the highlights several times I have to say that the Havant finishing was absolutely deadly. What did concern me greatly was how our centre backs were run ragged by the pace and directness of their forward line and you could see our centre backs trailing behind them, a poor second, too late to intervein. It was a carbon copy of the Dorchester thrashing.

Last season our back four were the absolute foundation / bedrock of the side but this season they are struggling badly against the faster pace and swiftness of movement of this premier league. I don't know why Kyle is out…
