Gloucester City vs. Frome Town: Preview and Ticket Info

Updated: Oct 15

Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, previews a Tuesday night trip up the M5.

On the back of a trio of hard-fought draws, The Robins could not have asked for a tougher

challenge on Tuesday evening when they travel to league leaders Gloucester City.

After a decade-and-a-half of battling away at Step Two, The Tigers suffered relegation last

term but are making a determined effort to bounce back at the first attempt, maintaining their

100% home league record on Saturday with a last gasp 2-1 victory over Havant and

Waterlooville.

The last competitive meeting between the two sides was as long ago as 1988, an FA trophy

tie at Meadow Park which went the way of the homesters by the odd goal in five, Tom

Gomes (from distance) and Dave Allen netting for Frome.

That ground, their home since the mid-80s, was destroyed by severe flooding in 2007,

forcing the Tigers into exile and the handicap of groundsharing for the next thirteen years

before finally returning to an impressive, newly built facility on the site (several feet higher) of

the old one.

Frome and Gloucester have never met in the league at first-team level but, intriguingly, their

Reserves have. That was way back in the 1955-56 season in Division Two of the Western

League with Gloucestershire doing the double over Somerset.

Danny Greaves’ side, improving game by game, came mightily close to ending

Basingstoke’s unbeaten run on Saturday and now they have an opportunity to extinguish the

Division’s only remaining perfect home record. It’s another of those ‘absolutely nothing to

lose’ scenarios which, every now and then, can produce a shock result. We live in hope.

I’m really looking forward to the Gloucester City vs. Frome Town match! It’s always exciting to see two teams like this go head-to-head, and I’m hoping for a great game. For those interested, the ticket info is already available, so grab them before they sell out. On a side note, I’ve been so caught up with my dissertation work that I almost considered looking for Pay someone to do my dissertation for me! But instead, I found a great resource on AI training to help me manage my research better. If you’re into AI too, I’d recommend looking up some recent developments in that field—it’s fascinating!

I attach a statement from Basingstoke FC tonight after one of our stewards was assaulted and hospitalised outside of the ground after the game.

"We strongly condemn the events that occurred following our recent fixture at Frome Town. The incident which took place outside the stadium, involved a minority of individuals claiming to be supporters of Basingstoke Town, and their behaviour does not reflect the values of our Club and the vast majority of our well behaved supporters.

We are a community-focused Club that prides itself on welcoming everyone. The behaviour displayed by these individuals is wholly unacceptable, and we strongly condemn the actions that led to an alleged assault. We are currently working closely with Frome Town FC and…
