Frome Town vs. Tavistock AFC: Preview

Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, looks ahead to the Lambs' visit to BA11.

With the feel-good juices still flowing following that dramatic last-gasp victory at Westbury,  The Robins will be looking to avenge the low point of their season when Tavistock come to Badgers Hill on Saturday.

It was a little over a month ago when they suffered a chastening 6-2 tanking at a chilly Langsford Park against opponents who have become something of a free-scoring nemesis.

The Lambs did the double last season (4-0 here and 4-3 in Devon) but Frome fans can take heart from the recent win against Bashley, our other 'bogey' side.

Since that January drubbing, Tavistock have hauled themselves up to twelfth, winning three of their subsequent four contests but they do have games in hand over most teams (several in some cases) and no other side in Division One South has won more games on the road (six).

Cribbs' midweek draw with Willand saw the Bristol outfit miss out on taking top spot as the title race now looks closer than ever with a single point separating the top three and intriguingly, they travel to Wimborne on Saturday.

                              Pld     Pts      GD

1  Wimborne        24       50      +24

2  FROME            24       49      +20

3  Cribbs              24       49      +14

The Tavistock clash will be Frome's last home fixture for three weeks as they embark upon trips to Larkhall, Willand and Bideford and hopes are high that their impressive unbeaten run in the league at Badgers Hill, currently eighteen matches, can be extended.

In an ideal world we’d beat Tavistock 15-0 to make up for the fourteen goals they’ve plundered against us in the las 3 meetings, but I’m not holding my breath on that one! Hopefully, Tealey and Co will be a dam sight better than the last 3 meetings against them as their forwards seem to have our number. 'Tavi' have won their last 2 games against lower league sides and our former player, Joe Loughlin has scored in each of them. 'Tavi' have several games in hand and could still obtain a playoff place. with a good run - just as they did last season.

As we have 3 difficult away games on the bounce after this one, we must…
