Steve Jupp, BA11's very own Club Historian, shares his thoughts ahead of a friendly visit from the neighbours.
The new campaign moves a significant step closer on Saturday with Frome Town's first pre-season friendly as National League South neighbours Bath City come to Badgers Hill for what promises to be an intriguing encounter.
Although two divisions separate The Robins from The Romans, this will be their fifth meeting in the past couple of years, the most recent being that injury-ravaged (from a Frome point of view) Premier Cup semi-final back in March when a seemingly lost cause very nearly turned into a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
Bath went on to lift the trophy (surprisingly for the first time since 2008) when three late goals saw off a brave challenge from Paulton Rovers (4-1 the final score), a welcome piece of silverware to go with an eleventh place finish in the league.
Frome fans will be hoping to get a glimpse of new striker Ben Griffith, recently signed from Premier Division South champions Weston-super-Mare along with central defender Matt Wood who made the permanent move from Shepton Mallet after impressing in a couple of loan appearances last term.
The return of a number of the walking wounded from the punishing final weeks of last season will also feel like new signings as the clock ticks down to the big kick-off in August.
