FROME Town ROBINS U18 3-0 Glastonbury u18

Somerset Floodlit Youth League – South Division

Frome Scorers Pollock, Clacee (2)

MOM: Clacee

Frome Town U18 got back on track with this well executed win against a spirited and very young Glastonbury side. Frome after their difficult 7-1 away loss away to Portishead in the cup were now looking to continue their 100 percent win ratio in the league after winning their opening league match. Frome made as many as 8 changes to the starting lineup after the cup loss with keeper Locke, fullbacks Brewster and Clacee, midfielders Farley & Seviour and attackers Porter, Pollock & Crossman all coming into the team.

Clacee & Farley were making their first competitive appearances of the season.

Frome started the game well with Clacee’s ability in the air and pace on the ground showing immediately at right back. Frome’s buildup patterns were good although they still perhaps could have had more overload from strikers at times and found balls into central midfield more often. Frome tended to build up mostly in wide areas and another type of run that they were missing in this instance was the inside to outside run or even a checked run by the wide attacker. However the individual skill of Frome’s front 6 along with good industry and pressing from them all led by skipper Seviour gave Frome control. Seviour pressed the ball ferociously while Pollock and Crossman made good dribbles and Porter dribbling and hit some lovely diagonal through passes which were not quite converted. Farley - who is U16 - on his debut showed good ball control and passing range.

"The Clacee Show"

Frome opened the scoring after a neat low finish by Pollock. Then it was the Clacee show. First the effervescent defender headed home the ball from close range after Seviour’s wonder 30 yard free kick hit the bar and fell to Clacee for 2-0. Then from another free kick Clacee kneed home his second and Frome’s third. Clacee was also imperious in defending corners and long kicks in the first half winning everything in the air and stopping problems before they started.

The score was 3-0 at half time at which point the excellent Clacee came off for a similarly impressive Carver with Clacee still feeling his way back to full match fitness. Carver was superb second half raiding up the right side and finding good passes on several occasions. Porter continued to show strong dribbling while Crossman went close with a great strike just over. Willis and Mori came on as subs in attack and midfield respectively and both showed good form with Willis getting 3 or 4 sots away after very good movement on the left while Mori showed good feet and defensive discipline while creating several chances for team mates with through passes.

Frome were unable to score again though as Glastonbury worked hard to keep the second half scoreless. Still a very good result or Frome in their first season back in floodlit football.
