Frome Town Scorers: Underhill, Seviour, Isaacson (2), Christmas (2), Petteford Player of the Match: Edwards
Frome Town Ladies welcomed Wellington Town Women to a sunny Badgers Hill with the temperature closer to that of summer. Straight from the kick off Frome pressed high up the field with the Welli keeper getting involved sensing she was in for a busy afternoon and on 4 minutes Underhill beat her with a well placed shot to confirm her thoughts.
With all the pressure coming from Frome Seviour got the 2nd of the afternoon when her initial shot was saved only to fall kindly back to her to slot home. Wellington dug in to make Frome work and the back 4 of Frome Brant, Lewer, Ratcliffe and Didymus had to concentrate with the 2 upfront looking lively, Ratcliffe’s turn of speed was called upon on a couple of times, with Restorick making a few routine saves.
40 minutes on the refs watch and Frome got their 3rd with good build up play down the right and some neat passing in and around the box ending with Isaacson chipping the keeper.
Frome ladies came out to the second half knowing there were more goals in this game and spent 10 minutes creating plenty of good chances but lacked any killer instinct in front of goal. Christmas who had introduced her presence to the Welli keeper throughout the game got her first of the day with a neat finish on 55 minutes and a carbon copy on 60 for her second as her speed was too much for the centre halves and keeper alike.
Frome’s 6th of the day came as Petteford chased down the ball robbing the keeper and her goal bound shot got converted a yard out by Isaacson. Petteford’s persistence payed off on 80 minutes as the away keepers save sat up nicely for her to strike home Frome’s 7th. All in all a good performance from the whole squad from front to back.
Another tight call for player of the match with Didymus and Ratcliffe coming close but Edwards received it for her great all round performance playing out of position.
Next week sees Wellington return to Badgers Hill for a Somerset Junior cup game, come on down there should be some goals!
