Frome Scorers: Pettiford, Didymus, Issacson, Bristow
POM: Didymus
Frome Town Ladies faced Portishead Reserves with a bare 11 squad at Badgers Hill for this their 1st meeting of the season hoping to keep up their 100% win record intact. The 1st 20 mins played out with both teams probing and looking for a way to open the scoring with Portishead more direct and Frome with a more measured and passing approach.
The 1st real chance fell to Frome with Didymus playing in an unaccustomed central midfield role putting the ball just wide from inside the area on 25 mins. It was the 30th minute when the deadlock was broken when a misjudgement and slip by the visiting keeper let the alert Pettiford run the ball through into an open net to score Frome’s 1st.
The rest of the half was contested by both teams who cancelled out any attacks on the slippery surface.
Frome Ladies got off to a flyer in the 2nd half with only 2 mins played they doubled their lead after a good ball in by Isaacson on the left found Underhill lurking and the keepers save fell nicely for the calm Didymus to dispatch the ball home for her 1st of the season.
At two nil now and Portishead had to push forward to try and get back into the game but Frome’s capable defence stood firm with grit and determination. 75 mins now gone and the industrious Bristow put through a defence splitting, perfectly weighted pass for Isaacson to run on to and slot home under the keeper to put Frome 3 up.
Within minutes the Portishead number 7 surged down our right with Bolt like pace and smashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner in impressive fashion leaving Restorick no chance. The now shattered Frome Ladies some playing on with injuries had 1 last twist for the game on 88 mins with Pettiford holding the ball up well then feeding Underhill on the edge of the box who unselfishly set up Bristow to take aim and curl the ball into the top corner with a precise strike leaving the away keeper rooted and a pure spectator!
A well earned 4-1 win against a tricky hard working opponent with Didymus getting the player of the match award for a great performance in the middle of the park and a well taken goal!
Next week the Ladies are on their travels again against Wellington near Taunton.
