Two second half goals saw our ladies win the top of the table clash against Purnell at Badgers hill with Perkins stealing the show to maintain the 100% start.

Frome Town Scorers: Underhill, Christmas,

Frome Town Player of the Match: Perkins

A quick start

Frome Town Ladies welcomed an unbeaten Purnells team to the Badgers Hill for a top of the table clash which saw both teams battle it out for supremacy. The early pressure came from the visitors for the first 10 minutes but the Frome defence stood firm defending with purpose and fended off any attempts at the Frome goal. Frome’s 1st meaningful move forward into the Purnells final third ended with the ball falling to Underhill just inside the 18 yard box who struck a fine shot beating the out rushing keeper.

Purnells restarted the game rather stunned going 1 nil down after having the lions share of the play, but Frome were soon at it again with some neat interplay through the midfield leading to a near perfect chip of the oncoming keeper by the lively Christmas only for the ball to agonisingly slide past the wrong side of the post. Half hour in after most of the play being contested in the midfield area Purnells tested the home keeper with their 1st shot on goal but Restorick claimed the ball comfortably to steady the home supporters nerves. With the half time whistle looming Porch attempted an audacious 35 yard chip which had the back peddling keeper worried for a moment.

The 2nd half started with a carbon copy of the 1st with the away team pushing forward forcing their 1st corner within minutes of the restart, the Frome Ladies stood their ground and defended right through the team. 55 minutes in Frome get away with a poor clearance with the home woodwork also standing firm. Equaliser and instant reply

on the 60th minute the Purnells number 8 got through on goal and calmly passed the ball into the only spot the home keeper had left as she narrowed the angles. 1 each and the away team looked the most threatening going forward and the home supporters feared the worst, but on 65 minutes Underhill shook off her opponent and played a ball in behind the Purnells defence for Christmas to run onto. With the keeper coming way out to clear the race was on and Christmas took on the challenge beating the keeper to the ball, rounding her and leaving the defence in her wake to calmly score in the unattended goal. Purnells and Frome played out a further frantic end to end 20 minutes with the Frome management Justin and Tim pacing up and down the line waiting for the full time whistle to blow.

Final blow

With only injury time to play Seviour collected the ball on the right, fed Petteford who unselfishly squared it to Underhill who cut back onto her trusty right peg and left the keeper no chance, killing off the game with a top corner finish.

Player of the match was a tough decision with Christmas, Harris and Bristow all in the frame but Perkins stole it for her great work all game in the centre of defence.
