Frome continued their preparations for the new season with an impressive 1-0 win over Yate Town of the Southern League Premier Division South on Saturday.
On an overcast afternoon at Badgers Hill, the Robins made a blistering start and took a first minute lead when Jon Davies played an inch-perfect pass into the path of Rex Mannings before the winger slotted the ball home from inside the Yate penalty area.
Several chances came and went for the home side to extend their lead in the opening exchanges, the best of which fell to goal-scorer Mannings when he latched onto a through ball from new signing George Rigg only to be denied by a good save from the visiting ‘keeper.
Debutant Rigg was replaced at half-time, and Robins’ boss Danny Greaves used the second half to give other members of his squad vital minutes ahead of the start of the league season on August 14th.
The closest either side came to finding the back of the net in the second period was a rasping effort from Davies that flew narrowly wide of the far post.
Despite wholesale changes being made on the hour mark, Frome comfortably saw out the victory to secure a first home victory of pre-season.
Tuesday night’s fixture against Bristol Rovers under 23’s has been postponed due to a number of Rovers players being forced to self-isolate.
We wish everyone at Bristol Rovers a full and speedy recovery, and we are now seeking alternative opponents for a 7.30pm kick off this Tuesday (27th July).
