A first-half strike from Rex Mannings secured safe passage in the FA Cup for the Robins against Mangotsfield United at Badgers Hill.
Frome scored the decisive goal midway through the half when James Ollis turned away from his marker on the halfway line and played an inch-perfect pass into the feet of Mannings, and the forward made no mistake when faced with visiting ‘keeper Cameron Pike.
George Rigg had already hit the post with a rasping effort from distance before the opening goal, but Frome’s attacking play had been somewhat stunted thanks to an injury picked up by Jon Davies that eventually forced him to be substituted.
Mannings almost returned the favour for Ollis minutes after opening the scoring, but this time Pike made an excellent save to keep out a goal-bound shot.
Composed defending prevented the visitors ever getting too close to James Carey’s goal, although a long-range shot from midfielder Dion Charles flashed just wide of the far post with half-time approaching.
A controlled second half performance saw Frome regularly push for a second goal without putting themselves in any real trouble defensively.
Marcus Mapstone nearly got his first goal of the season when he powerfully headed a Rigg set-piece towards goal, only to be denied by a good stop from Pike.
That was followed by a glorious opportunity for Mannings, who unfortunately scuffed wide of the target after he was picked out by Jack Witcombe in the penalty area.
Rigg struck the woodwork once again before the final whistle, hitting the angle of crossbar and post with a free-kick from distance.
The victory means the Robins have secured their place in the Second Qualifying Round.
Frome return to league action next Saturday with a trip to Cirencester Town.
