Frome continued their impressive pre-season form with a 1-0 victory over Bradford Town on Tuesday night at Badgers Hill.
After passing up several early opportunities, Frome took the lead midway through the first half when Matt Smith strode onto a loose ball on the edge of the Bradford penalty area and unleashed a powerful strike into the top corner of the goal.
Kane Simpson, returning to the side after missing Saturday’s win over Yate Town, was an industrious and lively presence in attack for the home side throughout, and he was denied on more than one occasion by the Bradford ‘keeper.
The visitors kept hold of possession neatly for long spells but organised and committed defending from the Robins’ backline left Seth Locke in goal with little to do for much of the first half.
Half-time substitute James Carey was significantly busier than Locke had been in the opening 45, first spreading himself well to keep out a one-on-one and then getting down quickly to keep out an audacious back-heel from a Bradford striker.
The best chances of the second period for Frome came through Jack Witcombe’s marauding runs down the right flank. He saw his cross loop over the visiting ‘keeper and hit the top of the crossbar just moments before breaking clear and crossing for James Ollis to turn the ball wide of the near post.
The Robins’ final pre-season friendly takes place on Friday 6th August away at Taunton, with the Southern League Division One South campaign getting underway the following weekend against Highworth Town at Badgers Hill.
