Devizes Town 0 - 1 Frome Town

Frome Town won away at Devizes Town to open their 2024-25 pre-season campaign.

The Robins lined up with all three summer additions in the starting lineup, Day, Hopkins, and Nielsen all impressing with some great attacking play in the first half. It was Nielsen's cross from the right which found Monks in space in the crowded penalty area who showed great feet to move the ball around the onrushing keeper before finishing neatly.

At the other end, the ever-reliable Mitchell had to be alert to clear the ball off the line after Devizes got in behind the Frome defence before the forward lifted the ball over the advancing Seb Tylek who was deputising for the unavailable Kyle Phillips.

The second half saw five changes, as well as further changes during the half which often makes for a bitty half of football in pre-season games. That being the case, Frome still continued to dominate proceedings with the impressive Hopkins, James Ollis and Will Taylor all going close to doubling the lead. With fifteen minutes remaining, 17-year-old goalkeeper Matt Green came on, a first-team competitive debut for the Frome Town United graduate.

The young keeper's first touch saw him make a brave double save to preserve the Robins' clean sheet, and ensure Danny Greaves' side left Nursteed Road with a comfortable win. With Teale, Phillips, Staley, Rigg, and Davies all unavailable, Frome will look to build minutes and momentum next Saturday when National League Yeovil visit Badgers Hill
