Manager Danny Greaves gives us this thoughts and reactions ahead of tonight's match vs Sholing.
Clearly we are all disappointed with Saturday's result. In a funny way, as a group, we can take pride from the reaction. It shows how far we have come in the last year. We now expect to win every game and when we don't it's a catastrophe. We just lost our first game at home in the league for 12 months, where our ever growing supporters have seen some great football in the main! We lost a game against a top side (who would easily be top of the form table in 2020) which could have gone either way with a missed penalty and one cleared off the line before half time. This without the experience and quality of Marcus Mapstone, Matt Smith, Jon Davies, Jake Jackson and James Carey.
I think the season will be like this. Teams will drop points as with so many games teams in quick succession, teams will have injuries, unavailability for those logistically challenging midweek trips, not to mention COVID. We have to move on from these disappointments quickly, and stick together as a group, supporters included as when you really get behind us, we are stronger. You give the boys that extra confidence and belief that we can achieve anything. It's no suprise our home form has been as good as it is.
We have put in 2 very good performances in the last week. We didn't hit those levels on Saturday, but although we lost on Saturday, key moments change games, and they didn't go for us, or we didn't do enough at those key times on the day.
We are disappointed whenever we don't pick up three points in any game, whoever we play. We all know the expectations at this club, from the supporters, the Board, but also within our dressing room.
Tonight will be another tough task. Going away to Sholing on a Tuesday night with the issues and unavailability I have already mentioned. They have had a terrific start, and up until Saturday were the only team to score past Cirencester, let alone beat them this season. They come off the back of a FA cup tie against Torquay where they lost but put in a very credible performance based on the report we have received.
We will got there with nothing to lose and will be aiming to bring home a positive result.
