Chairman's Message: March 2021

The end of the month sees our chairman Derek Graham provide an update from our board to keep all of our supporters and partners, helping you keep up to date with the clubs progress. Please get in contact if you have any comments or suggestions.

"Since my February newsletter, there have been a lot of positive developments and things are really looking up for us now. For once I am glad that most of what I want to tell you this month is football based.

Season and Flexi tickets

We have been in contact with a large majority of our Season ticket and Flexi ticket holders about their choices for next season. If you've not heard from us? please get in touch. I want again to thank all those Season and Flexi ticket holders who have responded so generously to the situation we found ourselves in when last season was terminated. As a small club, these gestures mean an awful lot.

We will be announcing the new Season Tickets at the end of April and I'm am delighted to say that there will be no changes to the pricing of any ticketing this year.

Frome Super Sixes

As some of you may have already seen we have launched a new exciting six a side tournament at the old golf club site on Sunday 27th June. We have already had a lot of interest in the competition, and it looks like it is going to be a great day. We are looking for more Over 40s teams, so if you want to dust off the boots and relive former glories, don't forget to submit your application. It's worth noting that as places are limited not all applications will be successful, but all are welcome to come, watch and enjoy the day.

Open day We also have our annual Open Day at the Robin’s Nest on Sunday 4th July. There are great plans for this event, you won't want to miss it. We've got some excellent ideas to expand on last year, with more family entertainment throughout the day. This is as well as the brilliant opportunity for the youngsters to train with the first team lads and will be so much more.

Friendlies

Danny, Gary and the team here have been working hard to put in a rigorous set of pre-season games for the squad. We are delighted to announce our second confirmed friendly with Weston-super-Mare. However, to fit all these in and accommodate other teams, we have had to alter the date for the game against Bath. These will be good opportunities to get the squad up to match fitness.

  • Tuesday July 6th Frome Town AFC v Bath City

  • Friday July 16th Frome Town AFC v Weston-super-Mare

There are a couple of other big match friendlies which are still in the pipeline, so watch this space.

League/Cup Start

The League starts on 14th August, but before that we will have an FA Cup game on potentially 7th August. We are all looking forward to good FA Cup and Trophy runs this season. On the latter point, congrats to both Hereford and Hornchurch on reaching the FA Trophy final. Massive achievement by Hornchurch to beat Notts County.

Playing squad

At our February Board meeting, Danny was able to tell us that the current squad will be virtually unchanged from last year. I personally want to thank all the players for sticking with us through the difficult times of the last 12 months.

Budgetting & finance

This is the time of year when we consider the budget for the next season. I want to thank Dan for the way he has carefully managed this year’s budget, and with a fair wind we should see next season through. This is in no little respect due to the work Gary has done in ensuring we get all the Covid grants to which we are entitled.

Partnerships and networking

With more clarity now about what is happening, we are reaching out again to potential sponsors, both across the season and for match days. We know this is an aspect where we have in the past underperformed. At the last Board meeting we considered a paper drawn up by the team which sets out some good ideas about how to drive up our sponsorship. We're currently talking to local businesses about how we can support them better and working together.

I also want to thank some of our die hard supporters (you know who you are) who are already putting in the leg work to get new sponsors.

Social media & communications

You will have seen a lot more social media input over the last few months, particularly on Instagram, where has been putting on some great photos. We now have over 1,000 followers on Instagram, and are punching well above our weight. We all hope that you can continue to like and share our messages to help build up numbers coming to games. We also hope that you are enjoying the 'Robins' Nest podcast series on Frome FM that now has 7 shows under its belt. Listen here

Damage and vandalism

Can I ask those of you who live near the ground, or maybe just walking past to be vigilant to any signs of damage or anti social behaviour. We have had some unsavoury incidents over the last few weeks, which has led to damage. We can ill afford to pay to put things right.

Social club / clubhouse

Finally, you will have seen my statement about the Social Club. Unfortunately these are all matters over which your Board has no control. I know there are plans to open up again as soon as circumstances allow. We wish the new tenants well.

It is great to say with some certainty that I am looking forward to welcoming all our supporters back to the ground."

'Del'
