Frome Town cruised into the next round of the Somerset Cup with a decisive victory over last year’s runners-up Brislington.
Albie Hopkins bagged a first-half brace, whilst new signing Archie Ferris also got in on the act, as well as Curtis Hutson, who all but sealed the Robins progression with a solid finish in the second half.

Danny Greaves made seven changes from the side that suffered a loss in Wales, with Ethan Vaughan and Alex Monks both returning from suspension. Notably Ferris slotted straight into the line-up despite having only signed yesterday.
The visitors showed clear intent from the outset, testing the opposition keeper early on through Vaughan, whose well-struck effort was palmed out.
However it didn’t take long for the BA11 side to take the lead; Ferris made an immediate impact, winning a free-kick in the 9th minute which Hopkins curled over the wall and into the top corner.
He then doubled his and Frome’s lead just eight minutes later, creating space in the box before smashing the ball into the roof of the net.
Despite struggles with goal-scoring all season, the away side found themselves three up when Ferris capped off a slick move, receiving an unselfish pass from Hopkins just outside the six-yard box and finishing with composure, just a glimpse of why the management team was so desperate to bring him in.
The hosts did have a chance in the 35th minute when their no.9 broke through on the left, but couldn’t find the corner, with his effort rolling just wide.
That was the final action before half-time and although Frome had few clear-cut chances, their clinical display was a refreshing change from what we’ve seen this season.
And the Robins continued to control the game in the second, with the back three of Matt Wood, Jac Poffley and Kynan Murchison continuing to look assured when playing out from the back.
Seb Tylek was called into action in the 52nd minute, but he comfortably handled a long-range shot.
Then 15 minutes later, substitute Curtis Hutson made it four, after Zak Drew’s shot looped up into the air, the Barbadian international gambled, timing his run to perfection and as the ball dropped, he poked it past the keeper.
Fellow substitute Josiah McKayle nearly added to the scoreline, and would have been frustrated to leave the pitch without a goal, heading just wide in the 72nd minute and missing another chance in the 88th minute following a Drew pass.
The home side managed to get a consolation goal in the 90th minute through Harry Goldspink, who drilled a low shot into the bottom corner, denying Tylek a dream clean-sheet, although there was nothing he could do about the effort.
Frome’s next Somerset Cup fixture will be an away match against Bath, but before that the Robins will return to league action on Saturday, where we’ll be looking for a strong turn out from the fans to push the boys on.
