Bridgwater United 3 - 1 Frome Town

Frome came away from Bridgwater with a defeat this afternoon in a game where more minutes in the legs was the order of the day.

Frome, who were missing several players due to injury and unavailability (Pierce Mitchell, George Rigg, Zak Drew, Reece Rusher, Warren Maidment, Will Taylor and Sam Meakes) were boosted by the return to the starting line up on Conrad Essilfie-Conduah following his return to the South West after a fortnight's absence. Sam Teale was withdrawn at half-time as a precaution due to an injury sustained in the first half.

Bridgwater were playing their eighth and final game of an impressive pre-season, having already defeated a number of teams from Step 4. The other Robins were impressive in most parts and clearly ready for their season and another promotion challenge to start next weekend.

Bridgwater opened the scoring as Frome lost possession in their own half resulting in Thorne carrying the ball forward before superbly finishing into the bottom corner. The home side doubled their advantage after an error from the otherwise ever-reliable Kyle Phillips who seemed to gather a low cross before somehow seeing the ball end up in the back of the net. Frome who were on top at that stage managed to pull one back through a James Ollis penalty, before Bridgwater sealed the win following a good flowing move.

Frome will move on to their next game against FC Bristol and, with players set to return at Badgers Hill, they will hope to start building some momentum as the season draws nearer.

Don't miss the two home friendlies coming up this week!
