2023/24 End of Season Awards and Presentation Evening!

Updated: May 15

What a season it was and this weekend we had a special evening up at the Clubhouse to finish it all off!

It was a fantastic occasion, a chance for the FTFC community, everybody from the players, the management, the board, Frome Town Council, the volunteers and, of course, the supporters, to come together and celebrate our promotion to the Southern League Premier division.

Among such a successful squad, the prizes were hotly-contested! Here are your winners from the 23/24:

Sam Teale (c) - Manager's Player of the Year

James Ollis - Golden Boot - 23 goals in all competitions

Joe Budd - Young Player of the Year

Jon Davies - Players' Player of the Year

Warren Maidment - Supporters' Player of the Year and Board's Player of the Year

Though he was absent and we wish him the best for his recovery from an operation, Derek Graham, the Chairman's eulogy to the 23/24 season was read out:

Who would have thought, after only taking a point from a possible six in our first couple of games against two newly-promoted sides, that we would have ended up with such a fantastic season, only losing 5 league games in total (all away from home), and going unbeaten here at Badgers Hill?! One of the best in the clubs history, surely?!

I know all of us wanted to win the league, but to finish playing our final four games at home in front of nearly 8000 supporters was unbelievable. What a season, what a squad! What we have here at Frome is a fantastic team ethic, right throughout the club, all with the same aim – to bring enjoyment and success to the town.

In the four years I have been Chairman, if you count the COVID season, we finished 2nd on three occasions. We have achieved this with consistency, commitment, and togetherness. You will see later as nine players receive long service awards. This is testament to our management vision!

I mention teamwork. We have a great set-up here at Frome. Credit as always goes to the volunteers who do so much unseen work from running the carpark, manning the gate, running the turnstiles, selling programmes, selling raffle tickets, running the tea hut and the Corner Flag, putting the corner flags out, helping prepare the pitch, cleaning the changing rooms, washing the kit, the matchday tannoy the list goes on… There are too many of you to thank individually, and I fear I may miss someone out. But thank you to each and every one of you!

I would also like to thank our magnificent Supporters' Club who continue to do such great work for the club. We are lucky to have you!

To the Community Benefit Society, the bar staff, the board, the media team, the backroom staff and, of course, the players, thank you for all you have done this season, and seasons gone before. Let’s hope we can continue our success together as we step up a level!

I would like to thank everyone for the support you have all given me over the years, which was encapsulated in such a fantastic occasion last Monday. To play in a final here at Badgers Hill in front of a record crowd, to win it the way we did, to then see the scenes and elation on the pitch, the smiles, tears and joy on people's faces, I have never seen anything like that at this level of football.

I finish this evening, by saying a huge thank you to Jon Carver whom I brought in four years ago when the club was on its knees at the start of the journey to reach today's success. It goes without saying, we would not be where we are without his hard work, expertise, and financial investments into our wonderful club. Last year he stepped down from the Board, but still continued to support us in the same as before attending all Board meetings and many games, as well as providing further investment and coordinating fund-raising activities. This is the true mark of the man. This summer he will take a further step back. He will still be around, but as a supporter only. On behalf of myself and the club, thank you Jon!

Lastly, Danny Greaves, our fantastic manager - I have never known a manger who works so hard in every aspect of running a football club. With Simmo, they make a great team. In my opinion, he is destined for bigger things. These two certainly deserve the accolades they are receiving. Thank you to you both and the rest of the management team.

I can’t believe I am missing tonight, such a wonderful occasion. Have a drink and celebrate for me. Just remember, I love Frome Town and all of you wonderful people who make this club what it is!
